Not all mask pads manage impact the same way. And none of them let you replace what wears out without replacing what protects you. The Cloud4 does both.
The First Modular Mask Pad System
D3O® Cloud4 pad cores operate as a two-part system. These cores contain the protective technology: four engineered layers that manage impact. They insert into Davis Pad Socks (required, sold separately), which provide the exterior fabric interface and frame attachment. When your pad sock wears from seasons of use, replace it. Not the padding. Want to change colors? Swap socks. Want moisture-wicking performance for August or microfiber suede for early spring? Change materials in minutes. Same protection, different interface.
Four-Layer Progressive Protection
Most traditional dual-layer pads fail through material mismatch. Stiff foam does all the work until it bottoms out, then transfers remaining force directly to you. The abrupt transition creates a force spike.
The Cloud4 succeeds through progressive deceleration across four precisely engineered layers. The bottom pad features D3O Aeromax where chin and cheek impacts are most common. D3O is rate-sensitive technology that stays flexible until impact. When you're hit, polymer chains lock together instantly, dispersing energy across the pad surface. The top pad uses Davis Covalta™ chemically cross-linked foam at the forehead zone, maintaining consistent protective properties across temperature extremes where traditional materials stiffen or degrade.
Both pads continue through high-density EVA for structural stability, medium-density PU for continued energy absorption, and soft EVA at the face interface. Each layer operates in its optimal compression range, extending impact duration by critical milliseconds. The transition between matched densities allows smooth force transmission throughout the impact event.
Softer face feel than our Tango2 and Shear3 pad cores. For umpires who prefer less firmness against the skin, or for early spring and late fall games where temperatures drop below 65°F and VPU-based pads become stiff.
A 1mm HDPE load distribution plate flexes under mask bar impact, transforming narrow 5-6mm pressure lines into broader compression zones. Force spreads before foam compresses.
Sophisticated protection engineered as a system. Comfort built in from the start.
